Ministry Event
January 22, 2012

A presentation on “Faith, Race, and the New Jim Crow” will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 22 at St. Paul Newman Center’s Cardinal Newman Hall, 1372 E. Barstow Ave.

Karen Crozier, special assistant to the provost at Fresno Pacific University for spiritual engagement and diversity, will provide an overview of Michelle Alexander’s book, “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness.” Alexander, a legal scholar/law professor, asserts in her book that the new war on drugs is the new Jim Crow.

The presentation will make connections to Christian faith and ethics to provide a theological and spiritual framework for engaging Alexander’s claim.

The event is hosted by the St. Paul Newman Center’s Peace and Social Justice Ministry. Details: (559) 227-6565
